Adaptive Technology Division (ATD)

VRHabilis coined the term adaptive technology to describe the technology that bridges the gap between medical technology and industrial technology. The goal of the ATD is to provide severely disabled veterans with employment opportunities in their chosen field of interest. Those opportunities may be as a VRHabilis employee or as an independent contractor. The ATD will work with the veteran and industry to establish the required adaptive technology to provide the veteran with the means to pursue their goals. Currently, ATD is working with remote control technology to allow disabled veterans to work in our range remediation division. However, the same technology can be used in excavation and light construction.

It is the vision of ATD to be able to expand into just about every field of endeavor, from trucking to computer technology, to mechanics. ATD is on the cutting edge to make VRHabilis's vision of mass customization to maximize human potential,™ a reality.

Wikipedia defines mass customization as follows:

Mass customization, in marketing, manufacturing, and management, is the use of flexible computer-aided manufacturing systems to produce custom output. Those systems combine the low unit costs of mass production processes with the flexibility of individual customization.

The concept of mass customization is attributed to Stan Davis in Future Perfect and was defined by Tseng and Jiao (2001, p. 685) as "producing goods and services to meet individual customer's needs with near mass production efficiency."

As defined by VRHabilis, Mass Customization to Maximize Human Potential seeks to bend that concept to provide tools to disabled veterans to allow them to pursue their desired careers. Instead of using a computer ordering model to tell a manufacturer what color seats you want in a car, it will tell the manufacturer what adaptive technology a truck needs to make it useful to a veteran with a specific set of disabilities.
